Does reading count as CPD?

Short answer

Yes, professional reading generally counts as self-directed CPD, provided you record what you read, how long it took and what you took from it. It rarely counts toward the structured or verifiable portion of an annual requirement, because there is no independent evidence of completion.

To make reading count reliably, log the specific title or article rather than "journal reading", note the time honestly, and write two or three sentences on the implication for your practice. A list of publication names with no reflection is the weakest entry type in any record.

If your body sets a structured minimum, treat reading as the supplement rather than the foundation of your year.
