Hours, points and records

What is the difference between CPD hours, points and credits?

Short answer

For most bodies the terms are interchangeable and map one-to-one: one hour of structured learning equals one CPD point or credit. A minority weight points differently, awarding more for assessed or higher-level activity. Always check the receiving body's conversion rule before assuming that one hour equals one point.

Because the words are used loosely across sectors, the safe practice is to record the underlying hours and let each body convert. An hours-based record can always be translated into a points system; a points-based record often cannot be translated back.

Accredited certificates issued through Accredo state CPD hours explicitly for this reason.
