Does in-house employer training count as CPD?
Short answer
Yes, internal training counts as CPD where it has defined learning objectives, a recorded duration and evidence of completion. Accrediting an internal programme makes those hours verifiable outside the organisation, so staff can carry them to a regulator or to a future employer.
Unaccredited internal training frequently goes unrecorded — the learning happens, but nothing exists that a regulator would accept. Employer accreditation closes that gap by turning induction pathways, technical training and leadership programmes into CPD that counts externally.
For employers it also functions as a retention and recruitment signal: development that staff can take with them is worth more to them than development that evaporates on resignation.
